At Danny Savery Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we accept students as young as three years old into our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program. Some may wonder: why start kids’ training so young? Will they be able to properly retain information, or be able to physically perform most techniques? Let’s discuss!
Our most effective method of teaching young children here at DSBJJ is simple: everything is a game. That doesn’t mean nothing is taken seriously, but sometimes just labeling something as being a fun game is all a young child needs to be interested! Basic BJJ techniques given a fun and stylish name and referred to as a ‘game’, their attention is immediately captured. When coupled with happy, fun-loving instructors and a great atmosphere, our Tiny Tots find themselves retaining a lot of the information and remembering techniques. Who knew fun was the secret to learning?
On top of this, while the Tiny Tot students may not be able to completely comprehend the applications of all techniques they learn, it is the perfect segue for them to transition into classes with older kids as they grow up. Rather than waiting until six years old and starting from there, a child can start earlier and have many techniques already memorized by the time they reach the next class. This is the best way to build up your child as a jiu-jitsu practitioner, growing up in the sport!
At Danny Savery BJJ, the Tiny Tots program includes three, four, and five year old kids and is split into two groups throughout the week. For more information, call 508-567-4017 or come visit us at 4263 North Main Street in Fall River, MA.
